What pole do I use? Do I recommend it for you?

Updated: Apr 25, 2023

If you want to know about the pole I use at home, it is a 45mm pole with a powder coated finish - and I love it!

But do I recommend it for you?

That depends. Before I share the link to buy your own powder coated pole, I want to give you a few things to consider before choosing your finish of pole:

The finish

A powder coated pole is a steel pole that is coated with an epoxy layer and then baked to seal it on. It creates a hard surface, and a lot of people like the grip that it provides.

If you have sensitive skin, or allergies to certain metals, a powder coated pole may be a great alternative for you!

Do you intend to compete?

Be sure to check out what finish of pole the organization uses for their competition. If you have a powder coated pole at home, do you have access to train on the same finish as the competition you're registering for? In my experience, chrome is the standard finish used at competitions in North America. It's a good idea to practice on the same finish of pole that you will compete with.

Do you want to have the same finish of pole as the studio you dance at?

If it doesn't bother you to train at home with a different finish on your pole than your local studio has on their poles, then a powder coated pole may be a good decision for you.

Every studio is different, some may have chrome, stainless steel, brass, or other finishes! Check with your local studio what the finish is on their poles. Knowing that will help you make as informed of a decision as possible.

If there are several studios in your area, and if they happen to use different finishes than one another, maybe you can drop in to a class or two to test drive the finish of their poles. Sadly, this is a luxury that may not be available to all - but if it's an option for you, it is something you can consider doing, maybe you'll discover a great studio while you're at it!

Conclusion

What you really need to consider is if you're okay with switching between finishes as you dance from home, take classes at your studio, and maybe compete.

I love my powder coated pole, and do not regret it at all. If I choose to compete again one day, I will add a chrome pole to my training space.

If you're ready to invest in your own pole that is the same as mine, then the link youre looking for is the X-Pert Pro-PX by X-Pole. Mine is 45mm, with a black powder coat finish.

For your own safety and well-being, do not compromise on a sturdy, reliable pole! Be careful with who you buy a pole from - not all poles are made the same. X-Pole is a trusted source for dance poles that can handle a rigorous workout like pole dancing.
